Rock Academy Band classes are open to students ages 10-18 who are able to sing or play a few songs. Whether you are a beginner, intermediate, or advanced musician, we will place you in the right band that complements your style and skills.
For 90 minutes each week, RA teachers work with students on musical elements such as rhythm, song structure, communication, and performance skills. Class sizes range from 4 to 7 students. Rock Academy band class sessions are 6 to 8 weeks long with a focus on a selected artist. When choosing songs that are used in performance, we teach the origin of songs and cover a variety of musical eras and artists.
We are dedicated to providing an exceptional experience by providing multiple opportunities for live stage performances. At the conclusion of each session, all musicians in RA house bands perform in a showcase at favorite local venues. We also provide occasions for all RA bands to play in the Chicagoland including festivals, school events, and charity events.
The main reason to choose Rock Academy as your music lesson provider is that we are sensitive to the fact that every student is an individual. Our teachers make it a priority to get to know you and to become familiar with your musical needs and aspirations. At the first lesson, your teacher will ask your previous music experience, favorite type of music, and set goals to help accomplish your musical ambitions.
For example, a 10-year-old having her first guitar lesson will have very different needs than a 17-year-old taking up a second instrument after having piano lessons as a child. Likewise, a student taking lessons for high school band has differing needs than a student who plays rock concerts.
If you enroll with RA, we will work with you to develop a plan that will fit your needs and musical preferences. Lessons last 30 minutes and you can begin any time (open enrollment). Even better, your consultation with RA teachers is always free.
Our versatile and experienced guitar teachers can teach a wide variety of music including rock, blues, metal, country, and classical in guitar lessons. These styles are balanced with solid fundamentals from nationally recognized methods. Beginner students can expect to work on chords, simple songs and melodies, sight-reading and theory. We balance musicianship and fun by making sure that each lesson you are challenged with a new technical or theory concept, but also encourage students to bring in ideas of pieces they want to learn. Students are encouraged to bring CDs or iPods to their lessons to set goals if there are tunes they want to learn.
Our piano teachers incorporate a variety of styles from classical to jazz to popular music in their lessons, developing a sound foundation with nationally recognized methods. Our piano staff will show you the fundamentals of sight-reading, technique, and theory and are also receptive to helping you learn your favorite songs in your lessons. A simple full size electronic keyboard will suffice for the first 6 months. Our piano teachers have warm personalities and enjoy sharing their love for the piano with you.
Our drum instructors teach rock, metal, jazz, funk, blues and many other styles. Drum language can be complex and our instructors will challenge any drummer with a wide variety of technical exercises designed to improve your speed and comfort. All drummers bring in their favorite drum parts to learn in their drum lessons and theory is encouraged. We have many drum students who play in local bands, rock clubs, churches, or our own Rock Band program. You do not have to purchase a drum kit to take lessons! Beginning students can learn with a drum pad and sticks for less than $50.00. Students use our drum set at their drum lessons and do not have to bring anything except their drum sticks and a notebook.
Our voice teachers teach a variety of styles of music including pop, Broadway, folk, jazz, classical and more. Our teachers will help you reach your potential as a singer by including standard vocal repertoire along side songs that you want to sing. Voice students spend time each week doing physical exercises to improve their vocal range, ear training, breath control, vibrato, tone production, enunciation and more. All voice students set goals with their teacher to refine their tone and stage presence andto develop their own unique voice.
